Oh Crop! I’ve Overpacked – Part 2
So I have a crop next weekend. Yay! Now I have to pack for it. Boo.
My first decision has to be – what do I want to work on? Because that changes what I take with me pretty dramatically.
My options are:
- my current travel album (Bar Harbor road trip)
- page kits
- a specific project (mini album etc)
- or cards (which is what I take when I don’t feel like bothering to figure out what to work on)
So packing – my goal each time is to take less. Obviously I’ll eventually reach a point where I can’t take less and be successful but I’m not there yet. (Possibly the understatement of the century.) I use a wagon to contain the mess (I have this one from Academy) and it works fine for me.
I like the wagon option because if I do a good job, I can do all my hauling in one trip or two at most. This is very important because it’s like 7 million degrees in Florida in the summer and I HATE loading and unloading my stuff in this heat and humidity.
Currently I have to load it into the wagon, wheel it out to the car, unload it into the trunk. Drive to the crop, reload it into the wagon. I really wish I could just leave it packed but that’s just not an option. I can’t get that loaded wagon in my car. LOL
In a perfect world I’d only have the stuff in the wagon. So far, I haven’t managed that though. There are “add on bags” that I pile up on top of the stuff the wagon. This is where my mess comes in.
I start the crop reasonably organized. I’m not a neat scrapper (slight understatement) but when I first get there, things are okay, ya know? But something happens by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around and I end up with like this sliding mountain of… crap. It’s everywhere! I’m literally scrapping ON TOP of a pile of stuff because I can’t find space on my table. It’s out. of. control.
So. I’ve said allll that to eventually say my goals for this crop are:
- Take less “add on” stuff
- Be reasonable when considering what to take. What items do I usually take but never reach for? Leave that at home.
- Stay organized on my workspace. Clean up between each layout.
- Try to avoid the sliding mountain of doom.
I’ll try to add photos to my instagram account (@shelliemariecrafts) as the weekend progresses and I’ll do a recap here after the crop is over to discuss what my successes and failures were.
Have a good weekend friends and I hope you do something creative. Wish me luck!
