This month’s “Life Sketch” subscription kits feature Echo Park’s By the Sea collection. This is a beautiful beach/nautical theme collection that I have really enjoyed using.

I really lucked out this month because I’m currently working on an album for my 2016 trip to Maine. This collection works PERFECTLY with some of the events I still needed to document – specifically our Whale Watch cruise and our visit to Quoddy Head lighthouse.

How I work with the sketch kits:
Sherri (the owner at SBL) designs the 6 double page spreads and uses them to create her own pages each month. I’m currently the “coordinator” for the facebook group for subscribers and my goal is to take the sketches and use them as a starting point, while showing how to use the sketches but still make them “my own”.
I am really loving this process. It challenges me to not just “scrap lift” Sherri’s pages or follow the sketches too closely. To look at the papers and consider my photos and make them fit together in a fun and creative way. I am really enjoying the creative process.
This month I also challenged myself to make 2 layouts that didn’t use the “nautical” elements, but instead chose “beach” themed pieces and made two spreads about a visit to Pensacola Beach. This helped me consider how to use the collection in a non-obvious way.
